The best AI voice agents for e-commerce brands on Shopify fall into two groups. Ready-made Shopify apps install in one click and start calling from store events, and Loop Voice is the top pick there for cart recovery, upsells, winbacks and support calls, with Consio next. Brands with a developer can build their own on Dograh, the open-source AI voice agent platform, self-hosted or on Dograh Cloud.

Key Takeaways

  • Loop Voice leads for Shopify cart calls, upsells, winbacks and support.
  • Choose an agent that texts the checkout link during the call and stops calling when a shopper says stop
  • With a developer, build on Dograh and reach Shopify through your own endpoint.

A Shopify store's phone line earns money in four places: abandoned checkouts, repeat orders, order questions and returns. We rank eight AI voice agents for e-commerce on those jobs, Shopify data, texted links, opt-outs, languages and price. Ready-made apps come first, then four platforms for developers, led by Dograh.

How we judged each voice agent

We judged each agent on the four store jobs that earn money on the phone, and then on the details that decide whether those calls pay off. That means which Shopify events start a call, whether the shopper gets a checkout link by text, how a stop request is handled, which languages the agent speaks, what an answered call costs and how it hands a call to your team.

Cart calls come first because that is where most money is lost. Baymard Institute's running average of 50 studies puts online cart abandonment at 70.22%, so about seven in ten carts are left without an order, and a call can bring some of those shoppers back while they still remember the cart. Inbound calls are worth just as much. In Invoca's DTC eCommerce Lead Conversion Benchmarks Report 2026, 54% of the leads that reached a person converted on that call, so a line nobody answers loses buyers who were ready to order.

Cart, upsell and winback calls also carry consent rules, covered near the end and in full in our post on AI voice agents for abandoned-cart recovery.

The eight voice agents compared

The table puts the four ready-made Shopify apps first, with Loop Voice at the top, and the four build-your-own platforms below, starting with Dograh. The platforms charge by the minute, so their price cell also shows a 3-minute call as a worked example.

Two ways a voice agent reaches a Shopify store. On the left, a ready-made app such as Loop Voice plugs straight into the store and calls a shopper about an abandoned checkout. On the right, an agent on a build-your-own platform such as Dograh sends an inbound caller's number to your own endpoint, which looks the order up in Shopify before the greeting.
Loop Voice installs from the Shopify App Store in one click. The build-your-own platforms connect to Shopify through code a developer runs against the store's API.

Why Loop Voice is our top pick

Loop Voice installs from the Shopify App Store in one click, and most stores are set up in under 10 minutes. Cart recovery is its main job. When a checkout is abandoned, the agent calls the shopper by name and talks about the cart they left, and the flow can follow up with a text carrying the checkout link and a discount code. Loop Voice says it has placed more than 100,000 calls for over 200 ecommerce brands, and it holds a 5.0 rating on the Shopify App Store.

The same app handles upsells after an order, winbacks of lapsed customers and failed-payment calls, and it answers inbound support calls around the clock. Each journey is built on a canvas from waits, calls, texts and branches. It starts from a store event, such as an abandoned checkout or an order placed, and stops the moment the shopper orders or says stop. Besides Shopify, it takes events from WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, Shopline and Checkout Champ.

Before going live, a simulator runs the agent against hard callers, like an angry customer or someone who asks if it is a robot, without dialing anyone or using credits. A/B tests then move traffic to the agent that earns more per call. The agent speaks English, Spanish and 30 more languages, with numbers in 90+ countries or your own Twilio number. Quiet hours follow each shopper's time zone, and anyone who texts STOP or says "don't call me" is not called again.

Loop Voice is free to install, with plans of $119, $399, $975 and $3,790 a month, and credits are used only when a customer picks up. Starter's 120 credits cover about 80 answered conversations, so by our arithmetic each one costs about $1.49. A DPA is available on request, recordings are kept for 7 days by default and can be switched off per number, and EU stores can read Loop Voice's own guide to voice AI agents for European languages and GDPR.

Loop Voice says its calls work best for stores with US-based customers. Pick it if you sell on Shopify, mostly to US shoppers, and want cart and winback calls running this week without a developer.

Consio, CartCall AI and Ringg AI

Consio is the most established of the other three, with a 5.0 rating from 46 reviews on its Shopify listing. Its inbound agent answers around the clock with live order and product context, including stock, and handles order status, returns, cancellations and callbacks. An outbound power dialer calls abandoned carts and Shopify or Klaviyo segments, and texts a checkout link during the call.

Consio has a free plan, then monthly plans from $30 to $120 that buy credits. The credits pay for call time and AI time, and texts use them too. A minute handled by its AI agent uses 24 credits, about $0.40 (the call minute plus $0.30 of AI time), and unanswered calls use none.

CartCall AI and Ringg AI are newer apps with no reviews yet, so try them on a small list first. CartCall AI calls shoppers who abandon checkout and also lists payment status and order processing calls. Its quiet hours follow each shopper's time zone, A/B tests and Klaviyo and Gorgias links come on the Business plan, and its app comes in English and French. Its three plans run from 50 to 200 calls a month, with a 3-day free trial.

Ringg AI calls abandoned carts and confirms cash-on-delivery orders, then texts a custom checkout link by SMS or WhatsApp after each call. It lists more than 20 languages. A free plan includes 500 minutes, and paid plans step up to 1,000 and 3,000 minutes.

Build your own with Dograh

The four platforms from here on connect to Shopify through code a developer runs against the store's API. Dograh, the open-source AI voice agent platform we build, is the one to start with if you want to own that setup. You run it on your own servers or on Dograh Cloud, with your own keys for any model provider or open models you host.

On an inbound call, Pre-Call Data Fetch sends the caller's number to your endpoint, which finds the order in Shopify and returns it before the greeting. The agent then asks for a check, such as the order number, before it reads out any details. During the call, HTTP API tools check stock, create a return or ask your SMS provider to text the checkout link. Cart calls start from your store's system through the API Trigger, and stop requests go onto your own do-not-call list. Our guide to building a voice agent for Shopify returns walks through one agent end to end.

When a caller needs a person, Transfer Call rings your team first and connects the caller once someone answers, on Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, Cloudonix or Asterisk ARI. If nobody picks up, the agent keeps the call. Every call has a full trace, the QA node scores calls you choose, and the lines an agent says most can be pre-recorded clips. Loop Voice's own comparison of self-hosted voice AI agents calls Dograh "the closest thing to a self-hosted Vapi or Retell".

Cost depends on where you run it. Self-hosted Dograh has no per-minute platform fee, but servers, model keys and phone minutes still cost money. Dograh Cloud charges a 1¢-a-minute platform fee. On our 3-minute example call, that is 3¢ before the models and phone line.

Retell AI, Vapi and ElevenLabs Agents

These three are hosted platforms where a developer builds the agent and connects it to Shopify. Here we look only at the Shopify side, and our roundup that compares all eleven e-commerce tools covers each one in full.

Retell AI connects to Shopify through Zapier, so an order event can trigger a call and the call summary and transcript are written back afterwards. To read an order during the call, a custom function sends its arguments to your URL and waits for the answer. Its voice agents run $0.07 to $0.31 a minute, so our 3-minute call costs 21¢ to 93¢, and its languages depend on the voice and speech provider you pick.

Vapi reaches the store through custom tools. Your server receives an HTTP request for each tool call and sends back the result, so the Shopify lookup lives in code you run. Vapi charges $0.05 a minute for hosting, with the models and phone line billed on top, which puts 15¢ of hosting on a 3-minute call. Vapi's own voices cover 40+ languages, and other providers add more.

ElevenLabs Agents use webhook tools that call your API, with the agent filling in the request from the conversation and keeping values from the reply for later in the call. ElevenLabs charges $0.08 a minute for agent calls, with the language model on top and the phone line billed by your carrier, so a 3-minute call is 24¢ before those. Picking All in its language settings gives an agent 31 languages.

Calling rules for cart and winback calls

Outbound store calls carry legal duties, and they sit with the store, whichever app dials. In its ruling on AI-generated voices, the Federal Communications Commission said AI-generated voices count as artificial voices under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). A cart, upsell or winback call invites a purchase, so under the FCC's calling rules it generally needs the shopper's prior express written consent to reach a mobile or home number: a signed agreement, electronic is fine, that names the store and the number and says agreeing is not a condition of buying. The call must name the business at the start and offer an automated way to opt out. A stop request must be honoured within ten business days at most, and sales calls run only from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the shopper's local time. If you want to tell shoppers they're speaking with an automated assistant, or your location requires it by law, say so in the opening line with the store's name, and confirm your own position with counsel before the first campaign.

How to choose for your store

Start with Loop Voice if you sell on Shopify, mostly to US shoppers, and want cart recovery running without a developer. Consio fits a store whose first need is answering order and return questions. CartCall AI suits a store that only needs cart calls with quiet hours, and Ringg AI one that wants WhatsApp links or cash-on-delivery checks, as long as you test them on a small list while their reviews build up.

Choose Dograh when you have a developer and want the agent and its call data under your own control. Retell AI, Vapi or ElevenLabs Agents make sense for a team already building on one of them. Whichever you pick, test it on your own orders first. Ask where an order is and check that the agent confirms a detail before it reads the address, as our post on AI voice agents for order status describes.

Glossary

Abandoned checkout
A Shopify checkout where the shopper entered details but did not pay. It is the event most cart-recovery apps, including Loop Voice, use to start a call or text.
Pre-Call Data Fetch
A Dograh setting on the Start Call node that sends the caller's and called numbers to your endpoint as the call connects. Your endpoint can look the order up in Shopify and return it before the greeting plays.
Prior express written consent
A signed agreement, electronic signatures included, in which a shopper agrees to sales calls in an artificial voice to a stated number. It names the seller and says agreeing is not a condition of buying.
A/B test
Splitting calls between two versions of an agent and comparing the results. Loop Voice and CartCall AI's Business plan run them between two agents, and Loop Voice promotes the better one.
