AI voice agents for client review reminders call advisory clients who are due for a review and have not booked it. After a check, the agent offers live slots with their own advisor and names the documents to bring. It never mentions markets or products, which generally keeps the reminder an informational call under the client's prior express consent.

Key Takeaways

  • Call only clients who have not booked after the firm's own invitation.
  • Any offer on the call makes it telemarketing that needs written consent.
  • Life changes the client mentions are recorded for the advisor, never answered.

This post is part of our guide to AI voice agents for wealth management, where reminders follow booking calls. Below, we cover who gets the reminder and the consent line it keeps to. Then we set up the reminder call in Dograh, the open-source AI voice agent platform we build.

Who gets a review reminder call

The reminder call is a follow-up for clients who have not booked their review, never the first contact. Your firm already sets the review cadence in its CRM, quarterly for some households and annual for most, and already sends an invitation by email or text. Most clients book from that.

The call goes to the rest. Pull the households that are due and still have no meeting after a set gap, such as two weeks, and send only those to the agent. A campaign can call the list from an uploaded file, but its contacts cannot be edited once it runs. If the list changes daily, have your own system start each call through the API Trigger, so it can check the client's consent record and booking status at the moment of the call.

Clients who said they want no reminder calls stay off the list. That record lives in your system, and so does the answer to the question in the next section.

A reminder is a service call until it sells

A reminder about a review the client already has is a service call, and the script has to keep it one. Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the FCC's 2024 ruling on AI-generated voices treats an AI voice as an artificial voice, so a call to a mobile needs the client's prior consent.

The kind of consent depends on what the call says. A reminder about the client's own review is generally informational, and needs their prior express consent, which most firms capture with the phone number at onboarding. A call that encourages someone to buy, or to invest in something, is telemarketing under the FCC's calling rules, and needs prior express written consent. For an advisory firm, "invest in" is the part that bites. Mention a new product, an extra account or a 401(k) rollover, and the reminder becomes a sales call that most client files have no consent for.

So the script carries no offer of any kind. If the firm wants to promote a new service, that belongs in a separate campaign to clients who gave written consent, and compliance reviews its script. Our post on service reminders in automotive applies the same split to dealers. The SEC Marketing Rule is aimed at communications that offer advisory services to prospective clients, so a reminder to an existing client about their own review generally falls outside it. Treat this as general information, and confirm your firm's position with counsel before the first campaign.

What the reminder call says

The call books the review after a check, and nothing else is on the script. The Start Call Greeting Text is spoken word for word, so it names the firm and the advisor and greets the client by first name, with a fallback such as {{first_name | there}} for a missing value. The FCC's rules ask an artificial-voice call to identify the business at the start, and the greeting does that every time. A campaign file can also give each contact their own greeting, as text or a recorded clip.

The greeting says nothing about accounts. A first name finds the right person, but it does not verify them, so the agent runs the firm's approved check before it talks about the review or books anything. If you want to tell clients they're speaking with an automated assistant, or your location requires it by law, write that in the Greeting Text along with the firm's name.

Once the check passes, the agent offers live slots with the household's own advisor, writes the booking and reads it back. AI voice agents for advisory appointment scheduling covers that booking step in full. Then it names the documents to bring, such as recent statements or an updated beneficiary form. Dograh sends no texts or emails itself, so an HTTP API tool asks your own system to send its secure upload link during the call.

Questions the agent hands to the advisor

The reminder agent books a date, and every question about money goes to the advisor. Review season is when clients ask "how did we do this year?" or "should I move to cash?" The agent has no answer to give, because the endpoint it reads returns the household's advisor and free slots, and never holdings or performance.

A pathway with the condition "advice or trade question" plays fixed Transition Speech, such as "That's a good one for your review. I'll note it so your advisor can go through it with you." The agent writes the question to the CRM as the client asked it. If the client wants an answer now, Transfer Call reaches the advisor on Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, Cloudonix or Asterisk ARI, and Dograh calls the destination first and connects the client only when someone answers.

Life changes need the same care. A client may mention a retirement date or a death in the family. Tell the agent in the prompt to record it as the client said it, for the advisor to read before the meeting, and never to answer with a planning idea or a product. The recorded field is an AI summary, and the transcript is the exact record.

On a review reminder call, a client mentions setting a retirement date. The voice agent offers no planning idea; it says it will note it for the advisor, writes it to a CRM note, and the advisor reads the note before the review.
A product idea in reply would generally turn the reminder into a sales call that most client files have no consent for. The planning answer belongs to the advisor, in the review the call just booked.

Calling hours, retries and opt-outs

A campaign's calling hours run in one time zone, so split the list by time zone and run one campaign per zone. Always set the hours, because a campaign with none set can place calls at any time of day.

Retries are set per campaign, from 0 to 10, with 2 by default, and a delay between them. Dograh has no cap on calls per client, so keep any limit in your own list, or set retries to 0 for clients you call often. Voicemail handling is off by default. Once you turn it on, "Disconnect the call" is preselected. If you choose "Leave a message", the message names the firm and a callback number, and nothing about the review.

A client who asks not to be called again comes off your own list. The agent writes the opt-out to your system through an HTTP API tool during the call, and your system removes the number from the next list, because Dograh keeps no do-not-call list of its own. Keep that list next to the consent record your system checks before each call.

Glossary

Prior express consent
The client's permission, usually given with their number at onboarding, to be called with an AI or artificial voice. A review reminder with no offer generally rests on it.
Telemarketing
A call that encourages someone to buy something or invest in it. For an advisory firm, suggesting a new account or a rollover on a reminder call turns it into one, which needs written consent.
Review cadence
How often each household is due for a review, set by the firm in its CRM, such as quarterly for some clients and annual for most. The reminder list is built from it.
Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)
The US law that governs calls made with an artificial voice, and the FCC's 2024 ruling counts an AI voice as one. So a review reminder to a client's mobile needs the client's prior consent.
