Five9 AI Agents suit large contact centers already on Five9 that want fixed IVA flows for compliance steps. They fit less well under 50 seats or when models must run on your own servers. Dograh, the open-source AI voice agent platform we build, can run beside Five9. You can self-host it or run it on Dograh Cloud.

Key Takeaways

  • Five9 bundles start at $159 a seat for Core, with a 50-seat minimum.
  • AI Agents are an add-on, with 3,000 AI minutes per bundled seat.
  • Fixed IVA flows beside autonomous agents suit compliance-heavy steps.

Five9 launched its Voice AI Agents this year, and most buyers already pay for Five9 seats. We give the verdict first, then cover what the agents do, how pricing works, where they are strong and where they limit teams, and how an open voice layer fits beside them.

The verdict on Five9 AI Agents

Five9 AI Agents are a good buy for one kind of team. If your contact center already runs on Five9, has well over 50 agents and wants AI from the same vendor as its routing, the agents fit cleanly. The mix of autonomous agents with fixed IVA flows for compliance steps is the strongest part of the design.

They fit less well in three cases. Teams under 50 seats pay the minimum anyway. Teams that must run models on their own servers will find GenAI Studio offers a choice of models, not a place to host your own. And teams that want to price AI before a sales call will find it sold as an add-on.

What Five9 AI Agents do

Five9's agents plan a call instead of following a script. On Five9's AI agents page, an orchestrator agent listens, reasons and plans the path to resolution, and specialized sub-agents carry out each step. You define goals in natural language rather than building rigid flows.

Next to the autonomous agents, Five9 keeps deterministic IVA flows for the steps where precision and compliance cannot bend. An identity check or a required disclosure can run as a fixed flow, and the open conversation runs on the agent. Five9 also lists custom guardrails, real-time monitoring, data redaction, and escalation that passes the conversation's context to a human agent.

A call inside Five9. An identity check and a required disclosure run on a locked fixed flow, then the open conversation goes to an orchestrator agent, which plans the path and passes each step to specialized sub-agents.
Many regulated calls need a few steps that must happen exactly the same way every time, and an open conversation around them.

The product is new. Five9's second-quarter 2026 results report revenue up 10% to $312.4 million and name the launch of Five9 Voice AI Agents in that quarter, with AI revenue growing faster than the business as a whole.

Five9 also lists adapters for Salesforce, ServiceNow, Microsoft Dynamics, Zendesk, Oracle, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and RingCentral. For a center that already runs those systems, the agent can reach the same records your human agents use.

Model choice in GenAI Studio

Five9 gives you a menu of models rather than one fixed model. GenAI Studio lets customers choose from a variety of generative AI models, third-party or proprietary, to match the business need. It also lets you test, monitor and improve those models with real call data.

That is a real strength over suites that hide the model. You can pick a model for tone, cost or accuracy, and check it on your own calls before it goes live.

What it describes is a choice among the models Five9 supports. Running an open-weight model on your own servers, so call audio stays in your building, is not part of what the GenAI Studio page describes. If that is a requirement, it is a question for Five9's sales team before you sign.

Pricing and the 50-seat minimum

Five9 prices people first and AI second. Five9 lists Digital at $119 and Core at $159 per seat per month, with Plus, Pro and Enterprise through sales. Prices are per concurrent user, usage-based pricing may apply, and there is a minimum of 50 seats.

The AI line sits in the footnotes. Bundles include 3,000 AI minutes per bundled seat plus usage, and AI Agents and the intelligent virtual agent (IVA) appear under the AI add-ons, so their price comes with your quote.

Here is a labelled example of the floor. A team that buys the minimum 50 Core seats pays 50 x $159 = $7,950 a month before AI Agents are added. Those 50 seats bring 50 x 3,000 = 150,000 AI minutes, and use beyond that is billed as usage at your contract rate.

For a center with 200 agents, the minimum never bites. For a 12-person support team, it means paying for 38 seats nobody uses before the AI starts.

Where Five9 AI Agents are strong

The best case for Five9 is fit. The agents live inside the same cloud as your routing, queues, human agents and reporting, so a handoff to a person keeps its context and lands in the queue your team already works.

The second strength is the split between autonomous agents and fixed IVA flows. Many regulated calls need a few steps that must happen exactly the same way every time, and an open conversation around them. Five9 lets you build both in one place.

Model choice in GenAI Studio and testing on real call data round it out. A Five9 customer can try a different model on the same calls without changing vendors.

Five9 also lists data redaction and custom guardrails, which matter for teams that record calls containing card numbers or health details. Those controls sit in the same admin as the rest of the center, so supervisors do not learn a second tool.

Where Five9 AI Agents limit teams

The limits come from packaging more than features. The 50-seat minimum shuts out small teams or makes them pay for empty seats. AI Agents are an add-on on top of the bundle, so the full cost of automation only appears in a quote. An independent analysis of Five9 AI Agents lists add-on packaging among buyers' common complaints, and Five9's own add-on list shows why.

Where the platform runs is the second limit. Five9 is a cloud contact center, and its intelligent virtual agents can integrate with an on-premises contact center. Teams whose call audio must stay on their own servers should ask Five9 directly what it can offer.

The third limit is how far you can see into each call. Five9 offers monitoring and guardrails, and teams that want to read every turn of every call, with the model inputs and timings, will want to check how much of that detail Five9 exposes before they sign.

Who should buy Five9 AI Agents

Buy Five9 AI Agents if you already run Five9, have well over 50 agents, and value one vendor for routing, people and AI. Regulated centers that need fixed flows for identity checks and disclosures get a design built for that.

Look elsewhere, or beside it, if you have fewer than 50 agents, if your models must run on your own servers, or if you want to price automation per minute before a sales call. If you are comparing suites, our post on Genesys Cloud AI vs open-source voice agents works through another seat-and-AI bill, and our Talkdesk AI Agents alternatives sorts the options by type.

Before you sign, ask for the AI Agents add-on price in writing alongside the usage rate beyond the bundled AI minutes. Then pilot one queue and compare containment and handoff quality with your current IVR in Five9's own reports, so the decision rests on your calls rather than a demo.

An open voice layer beside Five9

Beside means Five9 keeps routing and people, and one call type goes to an agent you run. A Five9 IVR branch can transfer the call to a phone number the voice agent answers. ElevenLabs' Five9 integration guide also describes AI Agent Connect, a paid Five9 add-on that is off by default and transfers a live call over SIP to an outside AI agent.

On the Dograh side, Pre-Call Data Fetch sends the caller's number to your own endpoint when the call connects and loads the customer's record before the greeting. The agent verifies the caller before it shares anything from that record.

Fixed wording works much like Five9's IVA flows. Dograh speaks exact words only where it plays fixed text: the Greeting Text on the Start Call node, a pathway's Transition Speech, or a pre-recorded clip. Inside a node, the language model writes the words. If a required notice sits in the Greeting Text, switch off Allow Greeting Interruption on the Start Call node, because it is on by default and a caller could talk over the notice. Our post on prompt and flow design patterns shows how to split a call by what must be said exactly.

Handing callers back uses an ordinary transfer. Transfer Call dials a Five9 queue number while the caller hears hold music, and connects them once someone answers. If nobody picks up, the line is busy or the transfer fails, the agent gets transfer_failed back and the call goes on. The tool runs on Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, Cloudonix and Asterisk ARI.

Every call has a full trace with the speech-to-text, AI and voice time for each turn. Self-hosted Dograh has no per-minute platform fee, but servers, model keys and phone minutes still cost money. Dograh Cloud charges a 1¢-a-minute platform fee. Neither has a seat minimum. Our guide to AI voice agents for BPO and contact centers covers handoff routing in depth.

Start with one call type and compare it with the same queue in Five9's reports. If it holds, widen it, and keep Five9 for the people.

Glossary

Intelligent virtual agent (IVA)
Five9's fixed, flow-based virtual agent. Five9 offers IVA flows beside its autonomous AI agents for steps where the exact words and order must not change, such as identity checks or disclosures.
Concurrent user
A seat counted by how many people can be logged in at the same time, not per named person. Five9 prices its bundles per concurrent user, with a minimum of 50 seats.
AI Agent Connect
A paid Five9 add-on, off by default, that transfers a live call over SIP to an outside AI agent. It is one way to put an agent you run beside Five9.
Greeting Text
The fixed opening line on Dograh's Start Call node, spoken word for word. Allow Greeting Interruption is on by default, so switch it off when the greeting carries a required notice.
