AI voice agents for electrical contractors answer the phone while the electrician is on a ladder or inside a panel. Anyone reporting sparks, a burning smell or a shock hears a fixed line to get to safety and call 911. The agent quotes only fixed prices from your list, books estimates and jobs, and routes urgent calls.
Key Takeaways
- Sparks, burning smells and shocks get a fixed line to call 911.
- The agent quotes only fixed prices from your own price list.
- Panel upgrades and EV chargers get an estimate visit, never a phone price.
This post is part of our guide to AI voice agents for field service management, where danger calls get fixed words first. Below, we cover an electrical contractor's calls, from safety to bookings. Each call then gets its setup in Dograh, the open-source AI voice agent platform our team makes.
The calls an electrician can't take on a ladder
An electrician halfway through a panel swap cannot pick up a ringing phone, and should not try. The calls still come in. A homeowner's breaker keeps tripping, a property manager has a dead circuit in a unit, and someone wants a price for an EV charger before the weekend.
The trade is large and busy. The BLS outlook for electricians counts about 821,000 jobs in 2025 and about 72,700 openings a year, and says schedules may include evenings and weekends, with overtime common. Small shops feel it most, with one or two electricians and nobody in the office.
A voice agent answers each of those calls, sorts it and writes what it learned to your field service software. The electrician comes down the ladder to booked work and written estimates, with nothing waiting in voicemail.
Sparks, burning smells and shocks
Danger calls get designed first. Anyone reporting sparks from an outlet, a burning or melting smell, smoke from a panel or a shock hears one fixed line: "If you're in danger, get to safety and call 911." If someone was hurt by a shock, the line is "If this is a medical emergency, please call 911 now."
The agent adds nothing to that line, such as advice to switch off a breaker, unless your company writes and approves the exact words. A caller standing near a sparking outlet should be moving away from it, so the safety line comes before any question about the address. The agent then ends the call, and a Webhook node sends the caller's number and the outcome to your system, which alerts the on-call electrician to follow up.
Exact words hold only in fixed text. A short version belongs in the Greeting Text right after your company name. Allow Greeting Interruption is on by default, so turn it off on the Start Call node. Repeat the line as Transition Speech on a "sparks, burning smell or shock" pathway, where it plays with the caller muted. Water spreading toward outlets is a plumber's call too, and AI voice agents for plumbing companies covers that one.

Quotes from your own price list
Callers want a price before they book. The agent reads only the prices your company publishes, such as the service call fee or a flat rate for adding an outlet, from a Knowledge Base file you upload in PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT or JSON, up to 5 MB. If your prices change often, an HTTP API tool can read them from your own system instead.
Everything else is priced on site. A panel upgrade, a rewire or an EV charger install depends on what the electrician finds, so the agent records the request and books an estimate visit. Tell it in the prompt never to say whether a job needs a permit, since that depends on local rules and the job itself.
A photo of the panel helps the estimate. During the call, an HTTP API tool asks your own messaging provider to text the caller an upload link. After the estimate goes out, AI voice agents for quote follow-up in home services covers the call that follows.
Booking jobs and estimate visits
The agent sorts the job type first, because a service call, an estimate and a commercial job need different slot lengths. It checks the address against your service area. Then an HTTP API tool reads open windows from your field service software, the agent offers only those, and the booking counts once your software returns a job number.
Trade words trip up speech-to-text. Add terms such as GFCI, AFCI, amperage and your panel brands to the Dictionary in the agent's Settings, so the speech model has them to listen for. AI voice agents for home-services appointment booking follows the booking loop in full.

Urgent calls and commercial customers
Some calls are urgent without being dangerous, such as a restaurant with no power to its kitchen at 4 p.m. Your written list decides which ones go to an electrician now. For those, the agent writes the address and the problem to your system first, because no summary travels with a transfer by default. Then Transfer Call rings the electrician on Twilio, Telnyx, Plivo, Cloudonix or Asterisk ARI, and the caller joins once the electrician answers.

Commercial and residential callers often need different people. Context Mapping on the Transfer Call tool reads a value the agent gathered, such as customer_type, and sends commercial calls to your commercial lead and the rest to the on-call electrician, with a fallback number for anything unmatched. If nobody answers within the 30-second default, the caller stays with the agent, which takes a callback request and pages the electrician through an HTTP API tool.
Where to start
Start with the hours when nobody answers today, often evenings, weekends and the middle of a big job. Build and test the danger pathway first, with the words callers really use, such as "the outlet popped and there's a black mark" or "my hand tingled when I touched the switch". Add quotes from your price list next, and bookings after that.
The agent can run on your own servers or in the cloud. Self-hosted Dograh has no per-minute platform fee, but servers, model keys and phone minutes still cost money. Dograh Cloud charges a 1¢-a-minute platform fee. Either way, each call's trace shows whether the danger pathway fired, and built-in QA can check a sample of calls every week.
Test over a real phone before customers hear the agent, since most calls reach it as 8 kHz audio and transfers only run on a phone call.
Glossary
- Ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI)
- An outlet or breaker that cuts power when current leaks to ground, common in kitchens and bathrooms. Adding GFCI to the agent's Dictionary helps speech-to-text catch it on the call.
- Transition Speech
- Typed text or a recording that plays exactly as set when the call switches to a pathway, with the caller muted. The danger line for sparks, burning smells and shocks lives here.
- Context Mapping
- A Transfer Call destination source that maps a gathered value, such as customer_type, to a number. Commercial calls can reach the commercial lead and the rest the on-call electrician, with a fallback.
- Dictionary
- A box in the agent's Settings for trade words, such as GFCI, AFCI and panel brands, which Dograh passes to the speech-to-text provider so it listens for them.
