Flex, Scale and Enterprise, Thoughtly's three plans, are sold by its sales team, each with unlimited minutes and a concurrent-call cap. Your bill is the quoted plan plus your carrier's charges if you bring your own numbers. Dograh, the open-source AI voice agent platform we build, lists a public price for self-hosting and for Dograh Cloud.

Key Takeaways

  • Thoughtly's real limit is concurrent calls: 10 on Flex, 100 or more on Scale.
  • Numbers bought from Thoughtly bill a full month. Imported Twilio numbers add nothing.
  • Size the plan from your busiest hour of calls.

This post is part of our guide to Thoughtly alternatives, where Thoughtly sits beside hosted platforms and open-source options on hosting, models, price and lock-in. Below, we go through each plan, the charges around it and one worked month for a lead team, then price the same month on Dograh.

How Thoughtly prices its plans

Thoughtly prices by plan, and the plan is quoted. It has three plans, Flex, Scale and Enterprise, each behind a "Talk to sales" or "Get a quote" button, and paid plans are sold only through its sales team. Voice minutes, texts, emails and production agents are unlimited on every plan.

What you buy is capacity. Each plan caps how many calls can run at once, and the page promises no per-channel fees and no per-seat charges. Thoughtly's own Vapi comparison also lists its platform fee as bundled, so the language model and standard voices sit inside the plan.

One older page says something different. Thoughtly's help-centre FAQ puts pricing at 5 cents a minute and up. The plans page with unlimited minutes is the newer model, so treat the FAQ line as a question for sales before you budget from it.

Flex, Scale and Enterprise compared

The plans differ in how many calls run at once and which compliance and model items come with them. The table puts Dograh's two options beside them, since those carry public prices.

Two compliance items decide the plan for some teams. Compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), with a business associate agreement (BAA), comes on Enterprise, and Scale adds a review against the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). If your calls need either, price the plan that includes it.

Usage charges and add-ons

A few charges sit outside the plan fee. Usage above your plan's monthly allowances is billed in arrears at the end of each cycle, and Thoughtly says nothing is cut off mid-conversation. Ask what those allowances are, since the plans page calls minutes unlimited.

A busy month on a calendar, its later days above the plan's allowances. A call between a lead and the agent keeps going mid-conversation. The next invoice carries a line for usage above allowances, stamped end of cycle.
Billed in arrears means charged after the usage happens, so the cost of a busy month arrives once the month is over. On accounts that run on credits, the credits do not roll over from month to month.

Phone numbers are the clearest add-on. Under Thoughtly's number billing rules, a number bought from Thoughtly is charged for the full month when you buy it, with no proration, and only Flex and Enterprise can buy numbers in the dashboard. Numbers you import from Twilio or Telnyx, which Thoughtly calls bring your own carrier (BYOC), carry no Thoughtly charge, and your carrier bills you for them and their minutes directly.

Voices can cost more. On Thoughtly, premium voices use two or three times the credits per minute, and using your own ElevenLabs key needs a paid ElevenLabs plan. Accounts that run on credits should know the credits do not roll over from month to month. The 14-day free trial cannot call real leads, so the first realistic test is on a paid plan.

One month for an inbound lead team

Here is one worked month, built only from figures you can check. A sales team takes 2,000 minutes of inbound lead calls and makes 1,000 minutes of follow-up calls. At its busiest hour, after a campaign email, 6 calls ring at once. It brings two local numbers from its own Twilio account.

Six calls at once fits under Flex's cap of 10, so the team lands on Flex. Minutes are unlimited, so the 3,000 minutes add nothing to the plan, and the imported numbers add no Thoughtly charge.

The carrier line comes from Twilio's US voice prices: $1.15 a month per local number, $0.0085 a minute inbound and $0.0140 a minute outbound. Twilio bills $2.30 for the two numbers, $17.00 for 2,000 inbound minutes and $14.00 for 1,000 outbound minutes, $33.30 in all.

So the month costs your Flex quote plus $33.30 from Twilio, plus anything above the plan's allowances. If a busier launch week pushes the peak past 10 calls at once, the team needs Scale, and the quote changes with it.

The same month on Dograh

The same 3,000 minutes price out line by line, because each part has a public rate. Self-hosted Dograh has no per-minute platform fee, but servers, model keys and phone minutes still cost money. Dograh Cloud charges a 1¢-a-minute platform fee. It includes 10 concurrent calls, so the 6-call peak fits.

On Dograh Cloud, 3,000 minutes add $30.00 of platform fee. The Twilio line stays the same $33.30, because Dograh connects to your own carrier. The models are the third line. With your own keys, your speech-to-text, language model and voice providers bill you at their own rates, and our breakdown of what an AI voice agent costs per minute prices each part.

So the Cloud month is $63.30 plus your model bills. Self-hosted, the $30.00 platform line goes away and your servers take its place. Where Thoughtly folds the models into one quote, Dograh shows each one on its own invoice, which means more lines to read and a choice of provider on each one.

The voice line is the easiest to cut. Recorded clips play for the lines your agent says most, with a cloned voice for the rest, as our guide to mixing pre-recorded audio with TTS shows.

Questions to ask Thoughtly's sales team

Bring your busiest hour to the sales call, along with your monthly minutes. Then ask the questions the plans page leaves to the quote.

Ask what your plan's monthly allowances are, since usage above them is billed in arrears. Ask how premium voices and your own ElevenLabs key are counted on your plan. Ask whether you should buy numbers from Thoughtly or import your Twilio or Telnyx numbers, and how a bought number would move if you ever leave. Ask about contract length and renewal terms. If you need HIPAA, your own model or data residency, ask for the Enterprise quote straight away.

If you would rather price the platform from a public page and own the setup, our Thoughtly comparison builds the same lead agent on Dograh and shows how to move it.

Glossary

Concurrent calls
The number of calls running at the same moment. Every Thoughtly plan has unlimited minutes, and concurrent calls are capped at 10 on Flex and 100 or more on Scale, so the plan you need depends on your busiest hour.
Billed in arrears
Charged after the usage happens, at the end of the billing cycle. Thoughtly bills usage above a plan's monthly allowances this way, so a busy month shows up on the next invoice.
Bring your own carrier (BYOC)
Importing phone numbers from your own Twilio or Telnyx account instead of buying them from Thoughtly. Thoughtly adds no charge for them, and your carrier bills the numbers and minutes directly.
Platform fee
What a voice agent platform charges for running calls, separate from the models and the phone line. Thoughtly folds it into a quoted plan, while Dograh Cloud shows it as its own line on the bill.
